Admission
by Rachel DuBose
What inspired you to write this play?
My husband and I recently enrolled our daughter into school for Pre-K, and I was worried about it being the right educational space for her and her development based on its socio-economic make-up. For me and my lived experience, I’ve always wanted my daughter to experience “Black Excellence” and to have that mirrored at her school and I was worried that her experience wouldn’t reflect that. Navigating the Chicago public school system and the private school system feels like searching for colleges.
