Amerykanie

by Jenni Lamb

What inspired you to write this play?

My hairstylist, Antje Kastner, is an immigrant from Germany and lived there when it was an Eastern Bloc country. This is similar to my own family, who immigrated here from Poland in 1959. We’ve had great conversations about the differences between hair techniques in Europe and the US. We’ve also talked a lot about how these immigrants change their looks to become more “American.”
