Purple Shimmers
by Rachel DuBose
What inspired you to write this play?
I love nails and have been OBSESSED since a child with painting my own nails. Before it was popular, BIPOC women have worn their nails as an outward expression of who they are, and it was seen as “ghetto, trashy, unkept, etc.”—which is so different from how nails are perceived now, people can wear creatively ornate nail styles to their corporate job.
